Inkhouse Provides Paid Leave to Employees who need to grieve and Recover from Pregnancy Loss

Jan 19, 2022 Alison Morra

I started my job at Inkhouse in March of 2013. Two months in, I found out I was pregnant. I was excited but also nervous about telling my boss so soon after starting. That never came to be, as, like 10 to 20 percent of all pregnancies, it ended in a miscarriage. I was so new I didn’t want to ask for any time off to recover or grieve so I went back to work the next day and worked throughout the entire experience.

For many years at Inkhouse we have had unlimited vacation and PTO and encourage our employees to take time when they need it. But miscarriage is such a taboo topic that we want to be upfront with our employees about taking the time they need to recover from a pregnancy loss. Now, we are introducing a new policy that offers employees two weeks of paid leave for those who experience miscarriage or pregnancy loss, including abortions, in the first 20 weeks. After that timeframe, our standard parental leave policy applies. It’s a benefit we hope not many of our employees take advantage of but there if they need it.

And we’re not just talking about the women at Inkhouse. Our paid leave benefit is available to all genders because everyone needs time and space to grieve.
